Our Story

In the summer of 2018, our founder, Simon, realised all was not well with his health and subsequently found out he had bowel cancer. Alongside other lifestyle changes, he decided to radically shift his diet. After realising how much additives and preservatives were found in most foods, especially bread, he decided to do something about it.

And that's how Four Bakery began.

Our Mission.

Four Bakery is more than a purveyor of baked goods – we're on a mission to provide high-quality, delicious food that is free from additives, preservatives and chemicals, using the best ingredients we can find from local and sustainable suppliers.

But it's so much more than that – supermarkets are laden with processed foods that have been flown from all over the world and pumped full of stuff that doesn't need to be there.

It's because of this that we believe society has lost connection with what they're eating and how it can affect them. So we're also on a mission to encourage people to seek out authentic, nourishing food, read food labels, question the nutritional value of what they eat and reconnect them with proper food and the people who make it.

Our Core Values.

It won’t be a surprise that we have four key values that are intrinsic to the ethos, and recipes, that we serve.

Simplicity

Our bakers relish in creating simple but delicious recipes that allow for the carefully selected ingredients to shine through.

Education

Alongside supplying authentic sourdough and baked goods, Four is on a mission to make people aware of the hidden preservatives and additives in all foods, especially flour.

We are proud members of the Real Bread Campaign who raise awareness for what real bread should be, sharing ways to make bread better for us, better for our communities and better for the planet.

Community

The best part about opening Four has been the connection to our customers and other local businesses on the island.

We love chatting to people from all walks of life about their journey with food – it's truly a topic that brings people together and everyone is on their own path.

When exploring the shop, customers can see straight into our kitchens, where they can watch our bakers hard at work and ask them any questions they may have.

Breaking down the barriers between produce and people is one small but important step in understanding what we put into our bodies.

Pâtissière and Chocolatière

At Four we recognise the importance of giving back to the community and we work hard to help people having a tougher time than most of us. Not only do we provide Macmillan Cancer Support with free bread on a daily basis, we also actively support and donate to Stand Up to Cancer. Any bread that is left over at the end of the day is donated to Jersey Hospital, the Salvation Army and OLIO.

Love

We genuinely love what we do. That’s why our bakers are up before dawn five days a week and why you'll always see lots of new things on our shelves each week. It's our passion, and we love to share it with you.
